Conserve Our Rainforests: Plant-A-Tree
Everyday, worldwide, trees are being cut down, forests are damaged … nature is slowly making way for man. As a result, our natural resources are slowly depleting.
Conserve Our Rainforests: Plant-A-Tree with an acronym ‘CORPAT’ is a project conceived by Soroptimist International Club of Bangsar (SI Bangsar). Officially launched on 22 June 2000, project CORPAT marks SI Bangsar’s contribution towards greening the environment in collaboration with our project partners, the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), the Forestry Department of Pahang and Sitrac Corporation Sdn Bhd.
CORPAT Objectives:-
- To create awareness on the importance of the rainforests,
- To educate and advocate nature conservation through the project,
- To raise funds to further enhance the environment,
- To assist the communities.
The tropical rainforests are considered one of the oldest rainforests in the world. It is a storehouse for a great diversity of plants and animal resources. The eco-system is extremely fragile, once disturbed and damaged, it takes a lifetime or longer to recover and it would never be the same
Project CORPAT
Project CORPAT is about knowing our rainforests and to plant indigenous rainforest species in a designated plot of land located next to the Visitors Centre of Tanarimba provided by Sitrac Corporation Sdn Bhd.
Method
With a minimum donation of RM500 for each tree, the donor will get to plant an indigenous tree personally and an information kit about the tree together with a Certificate of Adoption.
